SYMBOLIC CONSUMPTION

In this contemporary society, we are subconsciously involved in the consumption of visual imagery that reflects our dream and fantasy in life. A person’s perception is driven by various factors. What is being perceived are interpretations generated from our brains, which involves the process to gather information from our senses, memories and emotions.

“Without understanding how our memory works, it will not be possible

to fully appreciate how consumers reason, make decisions and solve problems, since most consumer decisions are dependent on memory”

(Aba, Hutchinson, & Lynch, 1991, P.14)

“People tend to believe what they see. We all share a significant tendency to judge contents by the container.”

(Rowden, 2004)

What generally takes a person to perceived was initiated through

visual perception; particularly, using our perception to

guide our consumption behavior.
